Friends of Hughlett Point/Dameron Marsh
Volunteers are needed to monitor the two State Natural Area Preserves (NAP) on the Chesapeake Bay shore in Northumberland County. Spend an occasional hour or two
· walking the Hughlett Point trails and beach (Dameron Marsh to be added later)
· observing recreational usage, wildlife and plant life
· then submitting a simple check list report to the VA Department of Conservation and Recreation.

If
you feel you might like to volunteer but would like more information, you may
with to attend an optional informational meeting on Saturday, June 1, in the
fellowship hall at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kilmarnock. Coupled with
the informational meeting are two other optional elements designed to introduce
the more recently acquired and not yet publicly accessible Dameron Marsh natural
preserve. The schedule is as follows:

9:00
Coffee and donuts at St. Andrew's. Scheduling is done and report forms on
monitoring are distributed for those who have signed up or intend to do so. Maps
and badges are also distributed. (Volunteers who cannot attend this meeting
will receive their materials and assignments individually.)

9:30-10:30
Natural heritage talk, video, and handouts, by Rebecca Wilson, Chesapeake Bay
Steward. VA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).
Optional Additions for

All those who care to do so drive to Dameron Marsh in a caravan.

11:00
Guided tour around the site by Rebecca Wilson and Greg. Toussaint, DCR Operations
Steward.

12:00
People who have brought picnic lunches eats on the site.
·
1:00
Anyone who is willing and able joins DCR staff in a shoreline cleanup by land
or sea.
