NAPS Business Meeting, Elections

The NAPS Business Meeting following the “Tangier in Crisis” program, February 11, and the Board Meeting, Tuesday, February 14, featured elections of officers.

At the Business Meeting three new Board members were nominated and elected. They are Meghan Bowis, Northumberland school teacher, now the Northumberland Elementary School Librarian; Becky Crowther, fifth grade math and science teacher; and Roger Gruden, retired senior vice president for Science Applications International Corp. (See separate story, Meet the New Board Members.)

At the February 14 Board of Directors Meeting, the following officers for 2017 were nominated and elected:

  • President: Mike Ahart

  • Vice President: Janice Mahoney

  • Secretary: Shauna McCranie

  • Treasurer: Greg Haugan

(Note: Greg is leaving the Northern Neck in April, requiring an election of a new treasurer.)

In other Business Meeting items, Greg presented a Financial Report and Member Report. (See separate article: Dr. Gregory Haugan Is Leaving the Northern Neck.)

Greg also presented a slide report dealing with the global impact of rising seawater levels, like the issue confronting Tangier Island discussed in the program. Coastal communities are already conducting efforts to mitigate rising sea levels.
