Household Hazardous and Electronics Waste Collection Sept. 22 in Northumberland County

The 2018 Fall Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Collection for Northumberland County will take place Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, from 9 am to 2 pm in the parking lot of Northumberland Middle School, accessible directly off of Rt. 360. This collaborative effort between Northumberland County, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the Northern Neck Soil and Water Conservation District gives county residents an opportunity to safely dispose of household chemicals and other substances that pose a danger to the environment if not disposed of properly. Please bring used gas and oil, oil based paints, pesticides, fertilizer, old cleaning products, solvents, anti-freeze and spent flourescent bulbs. Do NOT bring: Latex paint (it can be dried out and disposed of in the garbage), ammunition, radioactive materials, tires, car batteries, medical waste, or prescription drugs (prescription drugs may be taken to the Sheriff’s office). The electronic waste collection includes televisions, monitors, computers, cell phones, rechargeable batteries, gaming systems and other small electronics. Please do not bring appliances. Alkaline batteries may be disposed of in the trash, as they are not considered hazardous. For more information, contact Kathleen Watson by email or at 313-9102 x105.
