Three college-bound Northumberland High School seniors received scholarships from the Northumberland Association for Progressive Stewardship (NAPS) during Senior Recognition Night at the school auditorium, April 28, 2025.

Itzel Santamaria received a $2,000 scholarship, and $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Anne Shackleford and Chloe Brann in recognition of their academic achievement and service to the community.

Itzel Santamaria will be attending the University of Virginia pursuing a career in nursing. She has volunteered for NAPS cleanup events for the past 3 years.

Anne Shackleford is pursuing a biology degree at Virginia Tech with the goal of becoming a physician assistant and serving the Northumberland County community. She has been a volunteer for several NAPS events, including serving twice as a creek cleanup skiff captain.

Chloe Brann is pursuing a career as a software engineer and has been accepted to several Virginia universities. She has been a volunteer for two NAPS creek cleanup events.

The NAPS scholarships were presented by NAPS president Mike Ahart and NAPS Scholarship Committee chair Martha Tallent. Selection of awardees was based on a combination of environmental and community service, academic achievement, college interest, and need.
